Few live recordings have a life of their own like this one does!
Dr. John was very much interested in metaphysics. In voodoo, the “gilded splinters” are the points of a star; a distant planet. Mystically, they appear like little gilded splinters, like little gold scintillation, like fire that holds still. They’re different strengths at different times. It ties in with astrology. That’s what that’s about!
Lyrics:
Some people think they jive me but I know they must be crazy
They can’t see their misfortune I guess their just a little to lazy
Je suie le grande zombie my yellow belt of chosen
I ain’t afraid of no tomcats gonna fill my cup with poison
I walked through the fire and I fly through the smoke
I wanna see my enemy at the end of my rope
I walk on pins and needles and I see what they can do
Walk on gilded splinters with the king of the Zulu
Get it burn it (get it burn it, get it burn it, get it burn it)
(Oh oh oh, oh oh oh, oh oh oh, oh oh oh)
(Walk to me, get it, come come, walk on gilded splinters)
I walk in to my coffin I drink poison in my chalice
When the pride begins to fade you will all feel my malice
Put gris-gris on your doorstep so soon you’ll be in the gutter
I make your heart melt like butter and I can make you stutter, saying
