Etta James, Chuck Berry, Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, and Robert Cray – Rock and Roll Music – Live at Hail! Hail! Rock ‘N’ Roll, 1987.

It’s an amazing sight to see such superstars as Keith Richards and Eric Clapton show so much respect that they took a backup roll to Chuck Berry! He was the man who started it all and his songs are still solid gold standard’s after all this time they still stand out from all that came after him. Loved his music then and appreciate it all the more now! It’s exciting to see how much his music influenced musicians then and now. Love you Chuck keeping the world all shucked up!

From the first note to the last riff, this live performance is an unbridled celebration of the spirit of rock and roll. Etta James, with her soul-stirring vocals, set the stage on fire, injecting raw emotion into every lyric. Chuck Berry, the architect of rock and roll himself, dazzled the audience with his signature guitar licks and charismatic stage presence.

As Eric Clapton and Keith Richards exchanged fiery guitar solos, the stage became a battleground of musical prowess. The chemistry between these guitar gods was palpable, each note echoing the history they’ve written through their illustrious careers. The seamless interplay between Clapton and Richards is a testament to the shared language of musicians who have mastered their craft.

Enter Robert Cray, whose blues-infused guitar added a layer of depth to the performance, bridging the gap between the roots of rock and its evolution. The way Cray’s guitar conversed with Berry’s and Clapton’s was a sonic dialogue, showcasing the interconnectedness of blues and rock.

The highlight of the performance was undeniably the rendition of Chuck Berry’s classic hits, including “Johnny B. Goode.” Watching Berry command the stage with his signature duck walk and infectious energy was like witnessing a living legend reclaim his throne. The camaraderie among the musicians during these iconic moments was nothing short of magical.

Etta James brought a soulful touch to the stage, infusing songs like “At Last” with a new dimension. The contrast between James’ powerhouse vocals and Berry’s rock and roll energy created a dynamic spectrum that showcased the genre’s diverse roots.

Lyrics:
Just let me hear some of that rock and roll music
Any old way you choose it
It’s got a back beat, you can’t lose it
Any old time you use it
It’s gotta be rock and roll music
If you wanna dance with me
If you wanna dance with me

I have no kick against modern jazz
Unless they try to play it too darn fast
And change the beauty of the melody
Until they sound just like a symphony

That’s why I go for that rock and roll music
Any old way you choose it
It’s got a back beat, you can’t lose it
Any old time you use it
It’s gotta be rock and roll music
If you want to dance with me
If you want to dance with me

I took my loved one over cross the tracks
So she can hear my man a wailin’ sax
I must admit they have a rockin’ band
Man, they were goin’ like a hurricane

That’s why I go for that rock and roll music
Any old way you choose it
It’s got a back beat, you can’t lose it
Any old time you use it
It’s gotta be rock and roll music
If you wanna dance with me
If you wanna dance with me

Way down South they gave a jubilee,
The jokey folks they had a jamboree;
They’re drinkin’ homebrew from a water cup,
The folks dancin’ got all shook up

And started playin’ that rock and roll music
Any old way you choose it
It’s got a back beat, you can’t lose it
Any old time you use it
It’s gotta be rock and roll music
If you wanna dance with me
If you wanna dance with me

Don’t care to hear ’em play a tango
I’m in the mood to dig a mambo
It’s way to early for a congo
So keep a rockin’ that piano

So I can hear some of that rock and roll music
Any old way you choose it
It’s got a back beat, you can’t lose it
Any old time you use it
It’s gotta be rock and roll music
If you wanna dance with me
If you wanna dance with me
