Albert King, B.B. King, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Paul Butterfield – The Sky Is Crying

Stevie Ray Vaughan was electric. Known for his scorching guitar and passionate vocals, he brought a ferocity to “The Sky Is Crying” that was both powerful and beautiful. His solos were a mix of technical virtuosity and raw emotion, every note dripping with the sadness and longing in the song. He was in the music and his playing was proof he was one of the greatest blues guitarists of all time.

B.B. King, the King of the Blues, added a layer of soulful sophistication to the performance. His smooth, melodic guitar and expressive vocals was the perfect counterpoint to Vaughan’s intensity. King can convey deep emotion with just a few notes and his part in “The Sky Is Crying” was beautiful and masterful. His vibrato and phrasing were the only way B.B. King could deliver.

Albert King was another standout with his big presence and big guitar. He’s influenced many blues and rock guitarists and his style was evident in every riff and solo. His tone was deep and resonant and only a true blues master can have that kind of authority. Albert added a layer of dirt and authenticity to the performance, keeping it in the blues.

Paul Butterfield, a harmonica master, brought his own magic to the stage. His harmonica added a new texture to “The Sky Is Crying”, weaving in and out of the guitar lines with ease and style. Butterfield’s ability to convey emotion through his instrument was the perfect counterpoint to the big guitar playing of Vaughan, B.B., and Albert. His solos were melodic and expressive and added another layer to the already rich performance.

These four legends together were something special. Each brought their own voice to the song and the sound was complex and deep.
