Bonnie Raitt with Jerry Garcia Band – Think and Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door
Bonnie Raitt with Jerry Garcia Band – Think and Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door – Live at Greek Theatre in Berkeley, CA, 1987.
Makes me think Jerry shoulda done more work with Bonnie Raitt. The interplay of the two guitars is lovely. Jerry laying down fat lines and Bonnie coloring them with some sweet slide.
The treatment of Knockin on Heaven’s Door is maybe the best Garcia version around. Such a cool arrangement and performance!
Lyrics:
“Think”
I could give up my friends I know
And in return you could give up yours
Before we think, what would we do later on?
What kind of life would we have
Just in case we both were wrong?
I give up my woman you give your man
But it don’t make sense to take the chance
Before we think, what would we do later on?
What kind of life would we have
Just in case we both were wrong?
Well love is a gamble, we know that’s true
Why gamble on me? Why should I on you?
Before we think, what would we do later on?
What kind of life would we have
Just in case we both were wrong?

“Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door”
Mama take this badge from me
I can’t use it anymore
It’s getting dark too dark to see
Feels like I’m knockin’ on Heaven’s door
Knock-knock-knockin’ on Heaven’s door
Knock-knock-knockin’ on Heaven’s door
Knock-knock-knockin’ on Heaven’s door
Knock-knock-knockin’ on Heaven’s door
Mama put my guns in the ground
I can’t shoot them anymore
That cold black cloud is comin’ down
Feels like I’m knockin’ on Heaven’s door
Knock-knock-knockin’ on Heaven’s door
Knock-knock-knockin’ on Heaven’s door
Knock-knock-knockin’ on Heaven’s door
Knock-knock-knockin’ on Heaven’s door
“You just better start sniffin’ your own rank subjugation jack
‘Cause it’s just you against your tattered libido
The bank and the mortician, forever man
And it wouldn’t be luck if you could get out of life alive”
Knock-knock-knockin’ on Heaven’s door
(Knock-knock-knockin’ on Heaven’s door)
Knock-knock-knockin’ on Heaven’s door
(Knock-knock-knockin’ on Heaven’s door)
Knock-knock-knockin’ on Heaven’s door
(Knock-knock-knockin’ on Heaven’s door)
Knock-knock-knockin’ on Heaven’s door
(Knock-knock-knockin’ on Heaven’s door)
Knock-knock-knockin’ on Heaven’s door
Knock-knock-knockin’ on Heaven’s door
Knock-knock-knockin’ on Heaven’s door
Knock-knock-knockin’ on Heaven’s door
